It’s coming around to be one of my absolute favorite events to attend every year and that is F.G.I. Dallas Night Of Rising Star Awards! What makes Rising Stars so wonderful is that F.G.I. celebrates the talent thats right here in our own backyard of Dallas, Texas. The categories include Interior Design, Fashion Design, Photography, Makeup Artistry, Mens Accessories and Fashion Blogger. Im so incredibly humbled to have been nominated for the Fashion Group International Of Dallas 2017 Rising Star Award in the category of Fashion Blogger. Not only is this special because I’m being recognized in the city that I represent with brand partners and my readers every day, it’s extremely special because F.G.I has believed in me and my blog since it was created in 2013.
I grew up in a small town in Oklahoma and could only ever dream to work in fashion one day. When I was 19 I moved to Dallas by myself to go to school for merchandise marketing and while I was there I discovered my love for fashion journalism and content creation which has lead me to where I am today. Over the years I’ve had the pleasure of working with and interviewing international fashion icons, cover shows at New York Fashion Week and grow my platform in a challenging industry because F.G.I believed in me. My first fashion star interview was with Cameron Silver in 2014, A project that I pitched F.G.I. about in hopes I would maybe get my foot in the door. Much to my surprise they said YES and very shortly after that I covered their annual Scholarship Competition, an event where fashion students come to Dallas to learn about the industry from speakers as well as show their work and F.G.I. awards generous scholarships as well as a Paris American Academy Scholarship in which a student gets to spend the summer studying in Paris, France. Later that winter F.G.I. hosted their Night Of Stars Gala in which they would honor an idol of mine, someone I had seen as a beacon of light as the “Weird Kid” in small town Oklahoma. It was Zac Posen and F.G.I. invited me to sit down to interview with him over the phone during his down time from Project Runway for my blog. I have never told anybody this but I cried about that for weeks, and Ill never forget nor could I thank F.G.I enough for opening that door for me. That being said, to say this moment feels full circle just isn’t enough.
Of course as the years have gone by I have created friendships and done anything I could do to support and celebrate all the wonderful things that F.G.I. Dallas has done for our community and young students looking to get their foot in the door. F.G.I. is a home for me and an organization I’m extremely passionate about and will be for the rest of my life regardless of where this journey and god take me. Im very proud to be nominated amongst two vets in the Fashion Blogger category who I admire for their creativity and hungry for this city. Congratulations to Leah Frazier from InspireStyle and Alex Young from Eat Style Dallas.
