The flower sisters from The Perennial Style have been friends to Style Crave for years, so when it came time to launch Style Profile we knew Ellen Flowers was the perfect fit for our first feature. Style profile is a weekly feature in which we showcase various types of talent within the Fashion & Lifestyle community. Check out how Ellen Flowers blazes through Dallas and see how her and her sisters created “The Perennial Style“.
Ellen flowers and her sisters Blair and Janie started their site “The Perennial Style” as a fashion blog that would showcase their diverse style amongst each out and how their sisterly bond transcends into each others wardrobes. Each sister brings something special to the blog as they each have their own point of view when it comes to style. Blair the oldest, embraces southern effortless chic, Janie the youngest, loves comfort minamist and Ellen adores bold and edgy. The Flower sisters are high glam yet low maintness.
Style Crave // What made you want to start your blog as a sisterhood and not individually?
Ellen Flowers – I was living with my sister Blair and we woke up one sunday and decided that we needed a hobby. I’ve always loved blogs and wanted to work in fashion and blair completely pushed me towards it. Then we decided it would be so much more fun to do it together so its been us for 3 years.
Style Crave // What would you say are the biggest things you’ve learned from growing your platform?
Ellen Flowers – I’ve learned to really just write what you’re passionate about. I’ve seen a lot of people of the years get really excited when they hear what you can make blogging and then jump into it and get disappointed because they never started for the right reason. I think as long as you stay true your readers will feel that so you can keep building on your own successes.
Style Crave // How would you say you continue to build on your success?
Ellen Flowers – I really just think its about learning from each experience and finding a way to let that branch into something else. We started just writing about fashion and through that we started going to events, we were posting event recaps then soon after that were getting asked to host events. Then we started to travel all the time so we decided to include that and through that our travel views grew so now we have this full travel business as well through the site.
Style Crave // Tell me about growing up and how you all ended up in Dallas?
Ellen Flowers – We’re originally from Alabama, we came here for S.M.U. I’ve been here for about 9 years now. I love this city and its been so cool knowing nothing about it and after 9 years figuring out where I fit.
Style Crave // If somebody was coming to Dallas for 3 days what would be the places you suggested them to see and taste.
Ellen Flowers – Ofcourse Mi-Co Cina in Highland Park Village, for a nice night out we take all of our friends to Javiers. We think that it has a really good sense of Texas yet still really low key. For brunch Its always Villa O. For shopping I have always loved Milk N Honey On Knox Henderson. For a little bit more upscale we love The Shak at Stanley Korshak in there. For hair and makeup we go to this guy named Phillip, my sisters have been following him around from salon to salon and he’s currently at Salons of Dallas. He does the BEST Blonde.
