When it comes to modern pop musicians it’s challenging to find an artist that has the necessary ingredients to make it big. Charisma, recognizable tone and a unique look are just the surface elements that make Jess Glynne such a standout in the new artist category. If you don’t know her name or even her face at first glance one thing for sure is that you know her voice. Her breakout single with Clean Bandit “Rather Be” has sold over two million copies, spent weeks in heavy rotation on radio, was nominated and even won the grammy award for Best Dance Record. However, don’t get it twisted…Jess Glynne is no one hit wonder.
“I Cry When I Laugh” is smart, well written and an extremely catchy album with hit after hit and once played live there is no exception. The european pop powerhouse hit Dallas’ most beloved intimate venue “Trees” on 2/14 to a packed house of young and mature fans alike. The true highlight of the evening’s performance is that Jess Glynne is never afraid to hit every high note and harmony you hear in the backing on songs like “Don’t Be So Hard On Yourself” and “Why Me”. It’s clear that the music is the number one focus for Jess Glynne as she adorned a black jumpsuit with sheer side panels and metallic jewelry. However with A Voice like Jess’ there is no need for distractions. Overall it was a clean show that showed Jess’s powerhouse vocal range, cheeky spirit and undeniable charm. I was a huge fan of Jess before the show and after seeing how she connects with her audience and seamlessly sang her biggest songs I’m even more loyal. If you’re not familiar with her music grab your dancing shoes, morning coffee and check out two of my favorites from her Debut album “I Cry When I Laugh”
