One of the many reasons I started this blog is to inspire women and young men. I’m so proud to say I have a following of both! While I often write about men’s fashion I don’t like to give my blog a singular gender. I’m Always excited to please my lady followers who come to me looking for advice, so whats a better way to share fashion advice than from some of my favorite female bloggers!? These ladies are unique, sassy and have amazing hearts…..just a few of my favorite qualities, so start following them (Click Any Photo To Go To Their Blog)! The question….”Best Fashion Advice that you have ever been given?”
English author Quentin Crisp once said, “Fashion is what you adopt when you don’t know who you are.” As someone who is a tiny bit older than you (numbers are irrelevant) I can appreciate the wisdom in that statement. I think many people feel they must blindly follow the trends set forth by the magazine and retail powerhouses, but as you get older you realize that it’s much more important to wear what looks good on your body type. If the color of the season is magenta and you look awful in that color, use it on your nails or maybe in a shoe or handbag. If high-waisted pants are declared in and you are short-waisted, don’t wear them. It’s far better to be in well-fitted clothing than a fad that makes you look ridiculous or (gasp) is completely age inappropriate. You should consider trends, but ultimately wear what makes you feel good about yourself. I also have to give a shoutout to my Mother who said to me at least nine million times, “Get your hair out of your face!”. I hate to admit it, but she was right.
The best fashion advice I’ve learned over the years has been self taught. Growing up I never really had anyone to teach me the do’s & don’ts of fashion. Years of passion about fashion have taught me to never judge an outfit by the fit. I never hesitated to purchase a top that was one size too large if it was the last one available. Why? Because every woman should have herself one hell of a tailor, they are a girls personal fairy godmother! This will save you time, money, and ultimately stress (not to mention you win because you got that last top)!
“Splurge on quality, classic pieces and shop the look for less on trendy clothes. When you wear them together, you look like a million bucks and you know you’ve made smart use of your money.” – Our mom, Julie Flowers
Style is about expressing yourself and creating looks that make you feel confident and good about yourself inside and out.
The best fashion advice I’ve ever received is from my mom, the most stylish children’s librarian you will ever meet. She taught me to invest in classic black and white pieces. They never go out of style and make it so easy to pack when traveling (my dad works in the airline industry, so we took lots of trips as a family) because everything coordinates! It’s easy to add pops of colors with your accessories or makeup (red lipstick is a must).
